Climate Resilience: Tools for Survival

Project type

Stick Installation

Date

March 2023

Location

Denison University

In this installation I confront the viewer with both discomforting and comforting objects bound together in a complex web. When one object moves, they all move. The installation both reinforces the undeniability of climate change and the potential of self in a network to create meaningful change.

In order to mitigate climate change and environmental destruction we must first make it visible. The hanging sticks and branches, metals and textiles are seemingly disparate elements, although when one moves, they all move together, emphasizing a holistic and unifying approach to climate change as well as the inherent biological connections between the earth and ourselves. These elements were also created as tools from what I could find in the woods. They provide me with what I imagined would fill my needs while also being objects I could make myself.
